Speaker Series Presented by Golden Ticket Sports
Basketball Saskatchewan is pleased to announce our 2021 Speaker Series presented by Golden Ticket Sports! Throughout the month of April, we will have a number of guest speakers joining us to discuss various topics involving Basketball Skill Development, Athlete Health and Business! Registration for this event is FREE and will be completed through Canada Basketball’s GamePlan platform with Coaches receiving 1 PD point for each session they attend.

Coaches can register for each session they are interested in via Gameplan. If they have not used Gameplan before they will need to set up an account (choose the free version) and then go to workshops (filter by setting province to SK and module to Professional Development)

All registrations will receive an email the day before each speaker’s presentation with a zoom link from Golden Ticket Sports.
All registrants will receive 1 PD point per session they attend.

Topic: Finishing at the rim from Fundamentals to Train to Compete
Greg Jockims head coached the men’s basketball team for 13 seasons at the University of Saskatchewan. In 2004-05 and 2005-06 the Huskies won the Canada West Central Division Championship which culminated with their first trip to CIS Nationals in 18 years. In 2009-10, he led the men’s basketball team to their first-ever Canada West and CIS Championship titles. In addition to these accomplishments at the U of S, Jockims spent four seasons in a head-coaching job at Cape Breton University (1994-98) in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He led the team to an AUS Championship and a third place finish at Nationals in 1994-95.

Waterloo Warriors Women’s Basketball Head Coach
Topic: Player Skill Development In and Out of Covid-19
Jessica Roque joins the Waterloo Warriors as the full-time head coach for the 2020-21 season. Roque makes the move from the Ryerson Rams where she spent the past four seasons as the full-time Assistant Coach.
With the Rams, Roque was the lead in preparing in-game tactics, practice facilitation, game film breakdown, recruiting, and more that has prepared her for a U SPORTS head coaching role. Roque also led the Rams in an interim head coaching role in the summer of 2018 during an international competition in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Hoops Mind Founder and NBA Player Development Coach
Joe Boylan spent the last two seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans as the team’s Director of Player Development. During his time with the Pelicans, he has made a significant impact with young stars like Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball, and the reining most improved player of the year Brandon Ingram. In addition to that, he also is the creator of Hoops Mind, a boutique virtual coaching service with a focus on mental skills.

Australian Opals Assistant Coach
Peter Lonergan has been an influential coach educator impacting coaching development around the world. Australian Opals Assistant Coach, a highly successful State Director of Coaching in Victoria and New South Wales, and a national, and an international clinician for FIBA.
Peter has worked in basketball development for 25+ years.

Jonathan Registered Massage Therapist that has a patient first mentality. His focus is to educate and re-balance you so you can live a pain-free life through manual therapy and movement programming.
Jon has extensive training in various treatment techniques that will help address a full spectrum of issues that prevent you from doing what you love most.

University of Regina Men’s Basketball Head Coach
Steve Burrows was named the University of Regina’s men’s basketball head coach on June 24, 2013 after a lengthy tenure as an assistant for both the men’s and the women’s teams.
Under Coach Burrows, the Cougars have qualified for the Canada West postseason in each of the past five seasons and advanced to the conference quarterfinals in 2016, 2018, and 2019. The Cougars have had top-six finishes in the 17-team Canada West standings in two of the past three years, placing sixth in 2017-18 and fourth in 2018-19.

Barking Academy Head Coach and Great Britain U20 Assistant Coach
Current GB U20 Assistant Coach James Vear joined Barking Abbey in the 2014-15 season, bringing a wealth of international experience with him. Having started coaching with Sevenoaks Suns, he stayed there four years before taking over Medway Park Crusaders’ academy and semi-pro team, helping them gain promotion to NBL Division 1.
