Over 100 players playing post-secondary ball

While this isn't directly a coaching issue, minor, club and high school coaches around the province had something to do with the 110 Saskatchewan players that are competing at post-secondary institutions during the 2008-09 season.

There are 52 males and 58 females from our province playing university or college basketball, representing 33 communities.

Currently there are 25 males in the CIS, two in NCAA Division I, and 25 at CCAA schools.

There are 33 females playing at CIS schools, two in NCAA Division I, and 23 at CCAA schools.

Toughness is a skill

This is one of the best articles I've read about an often overlooked skill - toughness. Jay Bilas, former player and assistant coach at Duke and now an analyst for ESPN, defines toughness in basketball as he sees it.

A great read for all coaches, and players, at any level. If you coach a high school aged team this is definitely something you will want to share with your players.

Coaching Resource Page

Welcome to our Coaching page. I hope to add more coaching resources, articles, tips, and general coaching information to this site as I come across it. If you have any suggestions of links or things you'd like to see here as a coach, please send me a note.

I've included several links on the right which are some great sites to start with which I frequent.

FIBA Assist Magazine

You can download copies of the magazine for free. The bi-monthly publication includes sections on strategy, drills (with diagrams), conditioning, officiating, marketing and other little tidbits from around the world.

FIBA Coaching Library

This site includes drills and articles, but the real gem is the scouting section. it contains video clips and and scouting info on teams from every major FIBA competition. Clips from the 2008 Olympics have been added recently.

Coaches Clipboard

This website is from Basketball British Columbia. Updated monthly with drills, articles and coaching insights.

X's and O's and Beyond the Court

These blogs are from Canada Basketball. Mike MacKay is the Manager of Coach Education and Development, while Allison McNeill is head coach of the Senior Women's National team.

Eric Musselman's Basketball Notebook

Eric is a former head coach in the NBA, and posts daily with insights into coaching. While he deals mostly with basketball, he has lots of other notes about coaches from other sports, and how they work with their teams. Lots of great stuff here.

X's and O's of Basketball

This site is updated almost daily, usually with recent video clips dealing with game strategies and special situations. If you join the forum (for free), you can download notes from hundreds of clinics and articles from coaches around the world.
