Saskatchewan to Bid for FIBA Americas Basketball Tournament in 2011

Basketball Saskatchewan Inc. today announced a committee has been established to bid to host a FIBA Americas championship tournament in 2011.

“We have not yet received the bid criteria from FIBA Americas through Canada Basketball but we are confident we have the facilities, volunteers and the corporate support to host either a cadet (under 16) or junior (under 19) championship,” said Joe Ralko, President of Basketball Saskatchewan.

“Given our track record of success in hosting the 2004 national juvenile basketball championships, the 2005 Canada Games, the 2008 CIS women’s nationals in Saskatoon and the 2009 CIS women’s nationals in Regina we believe Saskatchewan is the right place for the competition in Canada.”

If Saskatchewan is awarded the FIBA Americas championship it will be the first international basketball tournament held in the province.

Ralko is the chair of the Saskatchewan FIBA Americas bid committee.

Other bid committee members are:
