  • Each team will play 3 games with all players playing equal time.
  • No score kept so that the game will focus on the development of the players rather than who is winning.

 

 Overview

Steve Nash Youth Basketball is a national youth basketball initiative designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship and a love for the game of basketball.  This grassroots program supports and empowers community-based recreational groups and facilities, schools and other institutions across Canada in an effort to positively influence youth through basketball.   The goal of the program is to allow participants the opportunity to maximize their potential, while promoting the importance of youth basketball as a vehicle to build character, discipline and self-esteem.

A program has been started in Southwest Saskatchewan for students grade 3 - 5  in the following locations. 

Eastend Frontier Gull Lake
Maple Creek Shaunavon Waldeck
Wymark

 

Community Program

  • Basketball Saskatchewan will work with the parents through a team manager to create a community program in South West Saskatchewan.
  • Each team will be independent and will determine when and where their practices will take place. This will depend on the availability of the players, the coach and gym space.
  • The cost of the program may be different for each team depending on the cost of gyms and if the community wishes to pay the coach an honorarium.  See cost breakdown below. 

Players will receive:

  • Reversible Jersey
  • Basketball
  • Shoe Bag
  • 10 - 14 practices
  • Tournament in Shaunavon April 17 Girls, April 18 Boys

Coaches will receive:

  •  Coach clinic on Feb 27  10:00 - 2:00
  • Practice plans
  • T-shirt
  • Whistle
  • Practice equipment

 Cost

The minimum cost is $50 per player for Canada Basketball and Basketball Saskatchewan Fees:

Basketball Saskatchewan will provide:

  • Liability & Sport accident insurance for players, coaches, & team managers
  • costs associated to player clinics at the schools
  • practice equipment
  • coaching clinic
  • officials clinic
  • costs associated with the tournament

Canada Basketball will provide:

  • Player jersey, ball & shoe bag
  • Coach T-shit, whistle
  • Practice plans
  • Program format
  • NCCP registration for coaches

There may be additional costs for gyms or coaching, this will be different in each community.
