Lindsey Ledingham, a student at Sheldon Williams Collegiate
in Regina, became the 15th recipient of the Troy Vanin Award. The
award is presented annually by the Vanin Family to a player who is a member
of the Basketball Saskatchewan provincial juvenile team in memory of their
son, Troy.
“This award
is presented annually to a student-athlete who demonstrates leadership,
ability and dedication on and off the court,” said Joe Ralko, President of
Basketball Saskatchewan.
The Troy
Vanin Award includes a $300 bursary and a personal plaque. Members of
both the boys and girls provincial basketball teams are eligible to apply
for the award.
Applications
were reviewed by a three-member committee of the Basketball Saskatchewan
Board of Directors that consisted this year of President Ralko, Susan Jarvis
of Regina and Wendy Benson of Saskatoon, a former provincial team head
coach.
Ledingham, a
post, has played for both the provincial midget and juvenile teams during
the past four years and has been a member of the Sheldon senior girls’
basketball team since she was in grade nine.
Basketball Saskatchewan would
like to congratulate Lindsay
& wish her success in her future endeavors.
