SNYB/Jr. NBA OverviewRead what they’re saying about SNYB in Biggar
Steve Nash Youth Basketball and Junior NBA are amalgamating and will be know as Jr. NBA. This will be a transition year and both Jr. NBA and SNYB will be on equipment and publications.
The program is a national youth basketball initiative designed to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship and a love for the game of basketball. This grassroots program supports and empowers community-based recreational groups and facilities, schools and other institutions across Canada in an effort to positively influence youth through basketball. The goal of the program is to allow participants the opportunity to maximize their potential, while promoting the importance of youth basketball as a vehicle to build character, discipline and self-esteem.
The Saskatchewan Youth Basketball league is divided into six areas of the province Melfort, North Battleford, Outlook, Swift Current, Weyburn and Yorkton/Moosomin.
There are 5 divisions and may vary by community:
- Grade 1 & 2 Mixed
- Grade 3 & 4 Girls
- Grade 3 & 4 Boys
- Grade 5 & 6 Girls
- Grade 5 & 6 Boys
The program consists of approximately 10 – 12 practices in each community some time between January and May followed by a tournament near the end of April or early May. Dates vary for each area and are available on the community web page.
Our goal is to develop fundamental skills so practice plans focus on the skills appropriate for the age group and tournament rules support the best development opportunities for young participants. For example, the grade 3 & 4 play 3 on 3 and grade 5 & 6 play 4 on 4.
