Michael has been involved with basketball since he was young in in rural Saskatchewan. Bucking the trend to play hockey, he started playing and developing his passion for the game on the local JR high school team at age 12, which continued past high school to post-secondary ball at SIAST College in Moose Jaw. He has coached at the elementary, Saskatoon minor basketball association, elite club and JR High school levels. He coached the Rivers West Boys basketball team in the Meadow Lake summer games. Growing up in rural south west Saskatchewan the opportunities to play and coach were somewhat limited. This is one of the reasons why he is very interested in promoting the game outside of major centers in the province. He currently works for the Ministry of Environment and is married to Treena where they reside in North Battleford. They have three teenage children involved in playing competitive basketball and other sports. He continues to coach his youngest daughter in club basketball . Michael is excited about the growth the sport has incurred in the past few years in this province and hopes to see this trend continue.
